The surface looks like old steel taken over by rust. Yet nothing here has rusted: the effect is reached without any artificial oxidation, through layers of material and colour alone.
The work is built through a layering process, using a 0.3 mm granulated mineral base to create a tactile, sculptural surface. Professional-grade siloxane pigments replicate the organic transition from raw steel to deep rust. Strategically placed accents of oxidised emerald green cut through the monochrome warmth, giving a vivid patina effect that suggests the resilience of colour against the passage of time.
The greens, light and dark, are fully matte, so they read as patina rather than paint. Low on the canvas, small violet dots break through: this paint sits on a pearlescent base and catches the light as you move.
Everything is worked by hand with brushes and sponges, which gives the rust its uneven, living edges, as on real metal. The piece belongs to matter painting, where the material itself becomes the subject.

Size and placement

The canvas arrives stretched on a stretcher frame, ready to hang. It is sent without an outer frame, so you can hang it as it is or choose a frame later.
Care
Wipe with a soft, damp sponge, without harsh cleaning products. The paint handles daylight well, but years of strong direct sun can slightly change the colour, so a spot out of direct sunlight keeps it closest to how it looks today.
