The whole painting is built on two colours and the tension between them: a warm sienna brown base and an unusual pale pearlescent yellow laid over it.

In the middle band, a single coat of the yellow is brushed on in vertical strokes, and the brown base shows through it. The silhouette stays open: some will see mountains in fog, others something else entirely. Each viewer finds their own shape in it.

Below it, the base is left bare in a flat band with a hard, straight edge. There is no soft transition on purpose: the strict geometry holds the soft fog above it. The canvas continues the tradition of colour field painting, where broad bands of colour carry the mood of a landscape rather than its picture.

At the top, the vertical coat is crossed by a second, horizontal one, and the strokes form a fine hand-made grid. From a distance this band reads as calm, pale sky; up close, a woven texture appears.

The pearl finish changes with the light: seen straight on, the yellow is soft; from the side, the surface begins to glow.

From the same series: Pearl Turquoise over Black and Violet Portal to Madeira, each built on one pearlescent colour over a contrasting base.

Size and placement

At 60 × 80 cm, this painting suits a wall above a chest of drawers, desk or bed around 90 cm wide, or a narrow wall in a bedroom or hallway.

Ready to hang

The canvas arrives stretched on a stretcher frame, ready to hang. It is sent without an outer frame, so you can hang it as it is or choose a frame later.

Care

Wipe with a soft, damp sponge, without harsh cleaning products. The paint handles daylight well, but years of strong direct sun can slightly change the colour, so a spot out of direct sunlight keeps it closest to how it looks today.
